No idea how to keep your little ones busy this June holidays? Fret not as the second edition of Gallery Children’s Biennale is back again from 25 May 2019 to 29 December 2019!
Across seven months, embrace a beautiful, magical world via 11 unique and creative artwork installations. Busy them with activities that involve composing your own tunes, braiding giant tresses and popping into a dome!
‘Embracing Wonder’ is the theme this year
Inspired by a child’s innocence, the artworks here aim to activate visitors senses and reignite their sense of curiosity, excitement and wonder. Visitors are also encouraged to go beyond imaginative play and discover new ways of looking at important concepts such as acceptance, belonging and openness.
BIG HUG, as its name implies, embodies the notion of ‘embrace’ in various dimensions. It includes more than 30 interactive and educational activities in four main spaces — Discover the World, Friendship Room, Family Room and Self Room — which aim to stimulate the imagination and enable discovery of oneself and our surroundings.
The Oort Cloud and the Blue Mountains
Children are restless and are eager to get their hands on things! Using interactivity as its main focus, this exhibit hopes to engage visitors through a motion-activated wall-relief artwork with LED lights, sounds, handmade objects and sensors. All of this are inspired by landscapes and objects from the cosmos.
If you’re familiar with artist Song-Ming Ang, Singapore’s representative at the 2019 Venice Biennale, you can also look forward to his new work called Chance Operations. Chance Operations aims to inspire visitors to create unexpected sounds with a colourful formation of ping pong balls and wind chimes.
This sounds super fun! What else is there?
In conjunction with the Gallery Children’s Biennale, there will also be a series of films that will be presented in collaboration with Singapore International Children’s Film Festival. To round it all off, a number of interesting tours and artist-led workshops will be available as well!
