The STGCC 2018 weekend has come and gone. The two-day event, hosted at Marina Bay Sands Expo on the 8th and 9th of September, was truly a sight to behold: Hoards of cosplayers strutting their best costumes, renowned artists from around the world making amazing art on the spot, the gathering of the island’s top gamers and many more.
Here are some of the highlights from STGCC 2018:
1) Hilarious cosplay
Featuring Singapore’s oldest cosplayer, Aunty Shirley, this group cosplay of Kungfu Hustle stood out for all the right reasons. Its attention to detail, such as the knife on Sing’s shoulder, is impeccable – Stephen Chow would approve.
Of all the Deadpool cosplayers, this one was definitely our favourite.
2) Mingling with artists
One of the main highlights of STGCC 2018 was the Walk of Fame where visitors could get up close and personal with the amazing line up of guests.
Best known for her art on My Little Pony and DC Superhero Girls, doe-eyed Agnes Garbowska was unsurprisingly one of the more popular guests who had many fans waiting to take a photo with.

On the other side of the Walk of Fame was tokidoki’s Simone Legno, who had lines of fans queueing up to have their new STGCC-exclusive tokidoki merch autographed by the creative director and co-founder himself.
2) Artists in action
Up on the main stage, artists put their money where their mouths were and demonstrated their unequalled artistic talents with onstage ‘live’ drawings.
On the first day of STGCC 2018, comic book fans were treated to a live drawing of Batman and Joker by Marvel and DC artist, David Finch. In less than 40 minutes, he managed to whip up an incredibly detailed illustration of DC’s greatest superhero and villain duo with just a pencil and a black brush pen. When asked why he thinks Batman is able to remain so popular over the years, Finch cited Batman’s timeless costume design.
4) Great merch
Walking through STGCC 2018’s Artist Alley was an absolute nightmare for our wallets. With rows lined with booths of comic books, art prints, toys, jewellery, clothing and more, it was hard to suppress the urge to pick something up.
One of the merch that stood out were the quirky acrylic keychains by Tea and Buns.
These cute keychains are available for preorder on Etsy.
5) Gaming paradise
The Good Game Experience (GGXP 2018) was an inclusive gaming event, no matter what kind of gamer you are – casual or hardcore – and whichever console you game on. There was even a booth set up by Gametrader.sg where visitors can play popular retro games such as Street Fighter and Sonic the Hedgehog on handmade retro arcade machines that were available for sale too!
So there you have it – the highlights of STGCC 2018! What an experience!
